The Occupational Therapy Assistant is responsible for the provision of treatment programs that have been developed and supervised by a qualified Occupational Therapist, as directed by professional practice guidelines. The Occupational Therapy Assistant will provide necessary assistance as required in conjunction with the Rehabilitation Therapy team.
Job Responsibility:
Provides individualized or group treatment programs based on clients needs including: Activities of daily living (i.e., self-care, feeding, dressing, meal preparation, etc)

Assists in fabricating and/or fitting assistive devices, adaptive clothing, splints, etc. for client use
Maintains equipment log of all Rehab equipment, and to the client whom the equipment has been assigned. Clean equipment on return to the department
Assists the Occupational Therapist in conducting home assessments for inpatients prior to discharge as required
Participates in the provision of ongoing education of clients, family members and other facility staff
Attends daily bullet rounds, family conferences and multidisciplinary meetings to maintain communication and consistency of care. Will relay information to rehab team following meetings attended
Reports observations to the Therapist and documents client’s performance and response to services
Communicates with members of the rehabilitation team and multidisciplinary team regarding treatment programs and client progress
Demonstrates commitment to continuing education
Participates in the department’s quality improvement activities and ensures client satisfaction with services provided
Participates in committee work and administrative duties related to the rehabilitation team and/or organization
Maintains necessary workload measurement on Promisio and Meditech Scheduler
Maintains a safe environment for clients and staff
Carries out all work assignments safely, and is knowledgeable of, and in compliance with relevant regulations, policies and procedures (i.e. Occupational Health & Safety Act)
Any other such duties as may be delegated by the Occupational Therapist and the Manager of, Therapeutic Services
Requirements:
Graduate of a recognized Occupational therapy Assistant Program at the post-secondary level (or graduate of a comparable post-secondary health care program)
MOCA certification preferred, or willing to take
Mobility Assessment Course or comparable experience, or willing to take
Previous experience working directly with clients in a health care facility
Knowledge in the field of gerontology
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and excellent problem solving ability
Advanced computer skills i.e.) Meditech, Promisio, Excel, Word, Publisher etc.
Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision
Current CPR certification
Dependable, competent and continued ability to carry out responsibilities
Physically and mentally capable of performing the essential duties of the job.
