Job Description:

Operates equipment and performs diagnostic and therapeutic CT procedures on patients according to established protocols to assist the physician in diagnosis and treatment.

Job Responsibility:

  • Performs diagnostic computed tomography procedures
  • Participates in complex invasive CT exams
  • Some may start intravenous sites and inject intravenous contrast
  • Practices radiation safety
  • Maintain the CT equipment in good operating order
  • Demonstrates yearly competencies
  • Assess physician’s order and patient’s requisition for completeness
  • Documents pertinent patient and exam information
  • Routinely prepare examination for interpretation by the radiologist
  • Possess computer skills appropriate to meet departmental needs
  • Performs and documents weekly quality assurance testing on equipment
  • Works effectively as a team member
  • Provides clinical supervision and instruction to students

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate AMA approved radiology program
  • Registered with American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT)
  • CT state license
  • CPR certification may be required
  • Maintenance of continuing education credits as required by licensure
  • Operate CT equipment
  • Venipuncture certificate (where applicable)
  • Capable of maintaining basic life support (CPR)

Nice to have:

  • At least three year’s experience as a radiological technologist
  • ARRT Advanced CT Registry certified
  • Associates or Applied Science Degree in related field

  • Prepares and administers IV contrast according to departmental protocols. On request, records contrast type and amount
  • Evaluates technical quality of images and consults with a Radiologist if needed. Recognizes abnormal anatomy and processes any additional, reconstructed images, and/or measurements as instructed
  • Performs basic patient care functions. Informs appropriate nursing personnel of any changes in the patient’s condition. Initiates life support measures for patients when necessary. Assists in “code blue” procedures during medical emergencies
  • Performs CT scanning and assists Radiologist/PA during invasive procedures. Practices proper sterile technique in the preparation of necessary supplies. Performs all invasive procedures in accordance with bloodborne pathogens, isolation, and infection control policies and procedures
  • Is authorized to obtain medication or contrast material as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner
  • Practices principle of radiation safety for self, employees, patients and family members. Follows appropriate radiation safety standards
