Job Description

Our client is a small, growing construction company seeking an experienced Accountant to manage the day‑to‑day accounting operations. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on environment, enjoys wearing multiple hats, and brings strong construction accounting experience. The company partners with an outside CPA for higher‑level accounting, so this role focuses on operational accounting with opportunities to take on more responsibility over time.

Job Responsibility

  • Accounts Payable (AP) – 50%: Process 500–1,000 invoices per month using 3‑way match
  • Accurately code invoices to appropriate jobs, GL accounts, and cost categories
  • Resolve vendor discrepancies, maintain vendor files, and ensure timely payment processing
  • Accounts Receivable (AR) – 25%: Prepare and send customer invoices, including AIA billing formats
  • Manage collections and maintain accurate aging reports
  • Coordinate with project managers to ensure billing accuracy and timely payments
  • General Accounting – 25%: Perform monthly bank reconciliations
  • Assist with job costing, cost tracking, and budget vs. actual reporting
  • Support project managers with cost inquiries and job‑level financial data
  • Assist with month-end close tasks and provide financial support documentation

Requirements

  • 3+ years of construction accounting experience (more experience strongly preferred)
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop
  • Experience with AIA billings
  • Strong job costing background
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently in a small-business environment
  • Strong communication skills and comfort interacting with project managers, vendors, and clients

Nice to have

Ability to read and interpret a P&L is preferred (not required)
