We are looking for a Front Desk Coordinator to serve as the first point of contact for visitors at a nonprofit veterans support center in San Francisco, California. This Contract position is ideal for someone who brings compassion, professionalism, and sound judgment to daily interactions with veterans and community members seeking assistance. In this onsite role, you will help create a welcoming atmosphere, guide guests to the right services, and support a safe and respectful front desk environment. The shift schedule is Saturdays ONLY! 11AM-7PM 1 DAY PER WEEK
Job Responsibility
Welcome veterans, guests, and community partners upon arrival and provide helpful direction based on their needs
Manage front desk interactions with professionalism while fostering a calm, respectful, and inclusive setting
Respond to general questions and connect individuals with available programs such as housing support, counseling, legal assistance, meals, and other community resources
Observe activity in the reception area and help maintain an orderly environment for all visitors and staff
Communicate with empathy and composure when assisting individuals facing emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges
Coordinate with internal teams and onsite service providers to ensure visitors are routed to appropriate support services in a timely manner
Uphold a trauma-informed approach in daily interactions with people navigating housing instability, recovery, or other complex life circumstances
Requirements
Prior experience in reception, front desk operations, customer service, or a community-facing support role
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with diverse populations
Demonstrated empathy, patience, and sound judgment when working with individuals in vulnerable situations
Ability to stay composed and attentive during sensitive, high-stress, or emotionally charged interactions
Familiarity with conflict de-escalation techniques and maintaining appropriate boundaries in public-facing settings
Experience supporting veterans, unhoused individuals, or behavioral health populations is highly valued
Commitment to providing service through a respectful, nonjudgmental, and trauma-informed lens
