We are seeking an experienced Freshwater Hatchery Manager to join the Mowi Canada East Team in Stephenville, Newfoundland. Reporting to the Freshwater Production Director, you will take responsibility for our largest land-based recirculation hatchery, licensed for 6.7 million smolts.
Job Responsibility:
Plan, organize and schedule all hatchery activities to achieve specified production goals to meet our long-term plans
Maintain, develop and implement techniques to optimize performance at all life stages
Supervise hatchery technical staff and provide logistical support for all hatchery activities
Ensure proper fish health and biosecurity
Maintain a safe working environment for staff and ensure safe practices are always adhered to
Ensure all fish health monitoring and reporting is carried out
Ensure preventative maintenance on all equipment is being completed
Collect, record and analyze growth and production data
Communicate daily, or as needed with manager if any significant changes in operation occur
Responsible for cost control and annual budgeting ($18million/yr)
Ensure proper administrational and finance requirements are followed
Communicate with Human Resources and Freshwater Director regarding employee related matters including hiring, terminations, rate changes, etc.
Performance Management and coaching of 40+ staff
Any required reporting
Requirements:
A minimum of a post-secondary qualification in a science or aquaculture related field is required. Equivalent education and experience may be considered
A minimum of 3 years experience operating an aquaculture R.A.S facility is required
Experience in the design stages of R.A.S would be a highly desirable asset
A minimum of 3 years managerial experience in Aquaculture, or an equivalent operational role
Demonstrable experience in leading and developing people
Management experience in salmon production, and a track record of working constructively with planning, coordination and implementation of strategy and/or new processes
A “can do” attitude with excellent cooperation and communications skills
Ability to work effectively under pressure in an ever-changing environment
An innovative and challenging mindset with regard to strategy, implementation and execution
Service minded, trustworthy and dedicated to the company’s business, vision and values
Ability to interact across our global organization from within a local team orientated environment
Stamina for regular travel throughout Atlantic Canada
English language ability
