Job Description:

We are seeking a detailed and enthusiastic Freelance Senior Technical Writer to join our client's world-renowned music electronics organization. This is a rare opportunity to join a highly sought-after team comprising Industrial Design, CMF, UX, User Research, and Visual Design experts. In this role, you will work cross-functionally with Product Design (PD), Customer Experience (CX), and Engineering to see innovative premium audio products before they come to life. You will play a critical role in ensuring the 'out-of-box' experience for consumers is intuitive, easy, and delightful. This position focuses on creating instructional content and owner's guides for premium hardware products (speakers, earbuds, soundbars). You will own the content strategy and development for materials that physically accompany the product and the detailed online support documentation. While you will collaborate closely with the Mobile App team to understand feature sets, this role is not focused on writing UI copy for the app itself. The ideal candidate is not just a writer, but a subject matter expert who can own their domain. This will be freelance, ad-hoc work, ranging on average from 5-25 hours per month.

Job Responsibility:

  • Instructional Content Creation: Develop 'in-the-box' content, including Quick Start Guides. You will collaborate deeply with Visual Designers to ensure imagery is intuitive for the user
  • Compliance & Safety: Manage the creation and accuracy of critical safety and legal documentation housed within the packaging
  • Online Owner's Guides: Author in-depth, feature-rich online guides that explain product functionality to the end user
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Gather and synthesize inputs from a broad stakeholder group including Engineering, Legal, and Product Management
  • Workflow Adaptation: Navigate a changing toolset and workflow environment with flexibility and a proactive mindset

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in UX or Technical Writing
  • Background in Consumer Electronics/CPG with a strong portfolio of B2C content
  • Experience in MadCap Flare (Preferred)
  • Experience in InDesign (Required)
  • Experience in Smartsheet (Preferred)
  • Unwavering commitment to accuracy, particularly regarding complex product features and compliance documentation
  • Ability to prioritize multiple workstreams and adapt to shifting production schedules
  • A proactive problem solver who balances independent work with deep cross-functional teamwork
  • An energetic, engaging professional who can champion the user's perspective and build strong relationships with stakeholders
What we offer:

medical, prescription, dental, vision, AD&D, and life insurance offerings, short-term disability, and a 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility)
