Our client is looking to fill the Freelance Research Analyst, The Research Analyst (per-diem) supports a global ad agency's data and intelligence teams during increased client demand. You will focus on delivering high-quality secondary research, media intelligence, and analytical support across client engagements. This individual will execute research and analysis across earned media, social listening, and broader media ecosystems, synthesizing findings into clear, insight-driven outputs. A core component of the role includes evaluating how media performance and narrative dynamics contribute to overall communications effectiveness, helping clients understand the impact of their messaging, positioning, and reputation efforts. The role is designed as flexible, project-based support and will partner closely with leads to ensure continuity and quality across active workstreams.
Job Responsibility:
Execute earned and social media monitoring and analysis across ongoing and ad hoc engagements
Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis of media coverage, including volume trends, sentiment, narrative shifts, message pull-through, and stakeholder positioning
Assess media performance in the context of communications objectives, identifying indicators of messaging effectiveness and reputational impact
Support competitive and industry landscape analyses to evaluate relative positioning and share of voice
Assist in issue tracking and reputational risk monitoring programs
Contribute to influencer and ecosystem mapping exercises, as needed
Synthesize large datasets into concise, structured summaries aligned to client objectives
Translate media intelligence findings into clear implications related to communications effectiveness and strategic positioning
Draft client-ready reporting components, including narrative insights and key findings
Support development of dashboards, trackers, and presentation materials
Ensure accuracy, consistency, and methodological rigor across all outputs
Develop and refine Boolean search queries across monitoring platforms
Pull, clean, and validate datasets prior to analysis
Utilize platforms such as Talkwalker, Meltwater, Brandwatch, Muck Rack, or similar tools
Maintain documentation of methodologies and search parameters for continuity
Respond to time-sensitive requests with flexibility and attention to detail
Integrate seamlessly into active project teams during peak periods
Requirements:
2–3 years of experience in research, media intelligence, analytics, communications, or related fields
Experience with secondary research and earned media measurement methodologies
Ability to connect media intelligence insights to communications strategy and measurement effectiveness
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Excellent written communication skills with the ability to produce client-ready summaries
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced agency environment
Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
Familiarity with media monitoring and analytics tools
