Job Description

An investor-backed (family office) buy-and-build group operating in the services sector. The group currently comprises two trading businesses, with under 100 employees and sub-£10m turnover. Having completed initial acquisitions, the business is now focused on integration and organic growth, with a clear ambition to continue building out the platform over time. This is an opportunity to support a hands-on Managing Director and leadership team in shaping a scalable and effective finance function. This is a high-impact fractional role, ideal for a commercially minded CFO who enjoys working in SME environments and driving tangible improvements in finance operations. A strong opportunity for an experienced fractional CFO to add immediate value within a growing, investor-backed platform at a key stage of its development.

Job Responsibility

  • Own and enhance the monthly management accounting process, delivering accurate and insightful reporting
  • Develop and maintain a robust 3-month rolling cashflow forecast for the group
  • Conduct a full diagnostic review of the finance function across both sites
  • Design and implement an improved finance structure aligned to business needs
  • Drive process improvements, including systems, automation, and reporting efficiency
  • Provide financial insight and support to the Managing Director to aid decision-making
  • Support ongoing integration of the group’s operating businesses

Requirements

  • Proven experience in PE-backed buy-and-build environments, ideally within business services
  • Strong M&A and post-acquisition integration experience (preferred)
  • Excellent technical skills, particularly in financial modelling and forecasting
  • Experience implementing systems, improving processes, and leveraging automation/AI
  • Background working within SME businesses (sub-£20m turnover)
  • Hands-on and pragmatic approach, comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels
