Job Description:

Brookline DPW's Parks and Open Spaces division seeks an experienced Forestry Supervisor to lead the care and stewardship of our urban forest. This hands-on role oversees tree planting, pruning, removals, pest and disease management, emergency response, and supervises staff and contractors

Job Responsibility:

  • Plans, performs, and oversees tree maintenance
  • leads Town crews and contractors
  • operates specialized forestry equipment, including bucket trucks and chainsaws
  • conducts climbing work as needed
  • Manages storm response and other emergencies
  • maintains the town's tree inventory
  • oversees the Integrated Pest Management program
  • recommends tree species for planting
  • Additional duties include safety training, site inspections, public engagement, contract oversight, support for winter maintenance operations, and all other duties as required

Requirements:

  • High school diploma plus technical training in arboriculture, horticulture, or related field, or equivalent education and experience
  • Five to seven years of professional tree care or parks maintenance experience, including supervisory work
  • Strong knowledge of tree biology, pruning standards, and pest/disease control
  • Ability to lead staff, assess hazardous trees, and operate forestry equipment
  • CDL Class B, MA Hoisting Engineer License, MA or ISA Certified Arborist, and MA Pesticide Applicator License (Category 36)
