Job Description

The Forestry Manager will play a critical role in managing all forestry-related activities within the forest reserve. This role encompasses all operations in MIOMBO’s biome, with a strong focus on sustainable practices and carbon project integration. The Forestry Manager will work on forestry management, logistics, safety and firefighting and fire prevention, contributing to the project's overall objectives.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage the implementation and maintenance of forest reserves, on reforestation and afforestation projects
  • Implement large-scale planting operations, including site preparation, planting methodologies, and species selection to optimize carbon sequestration and biodiversity
  • Maintenance of planted areas and forest reserves, including monitoring growth, health assessments, and implementing conservation practices
  • Implement MAMALAND’s forest management regime to enhance ecological integrity and sustainable use of forest resources
  • Manage all firefighting and fire preventions teams, as well as forestry guards
  • Collaborating with local communities, government agencies, and environmental organizations to ensure the alignment of forestry activities with broader conservation and sustainability objectives

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master’s degree in forestry, agronomy, or a related field
  • Experience ranging from 3 to 5 years
  • Proven expertise in forestry management, specifically in MIOMBO woodlands (preferably) and commercial forestry
  • Demonstrated ability in managing planting operations, with a focus on sustainability practices
  • Strong leadership abilities to manage diverse teams and operations, ensuring effective implementation of forestry activities
  • Proficiency in English is essential
  • A valid international driving license is preferred
  • Willingness to travel in Africa, if needed

Nice to have

Knowledge of local African languages (Chichewa) or Portuguese is a significant advantage
