Food Technology HLTA / Teacher – SEMH Alternative Provision. Burgess Hill. September Start. Full-Time. Salary/Paid Rate Dependent on Experience. Are you passionate about Food Technology and helping young people thrive in education? We are seeking either an experienced Food Technology Teacher or a confident Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a specialist SEMH Alternative Provision in Burgess Hill from September. This setting supports students aged 5–16 who may have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, anxiety, behavioural difficulties, or have struggled to access mainstream education. The provision focuses on creating a supportive, engaging, and nurturing environment where students can rebuild confidence and develop a positive relationship with learning.
Job Responsibility
Delivering Food Technology lessons and practical cooking activities
Supporting students to develop confidence, independence, and essential life skills
Creating a safe and engaging learning environment
Adapting learning to meet individual student needs
Supporting pupils who may present with SEMH needs, anxiety, or challenging behaviour
Building positive relationships and encouraging engagement with education
Working closely with support staff and the wider school team
Requirements
Has experience teaching Food Technology or delivering practical cooking sessions
Holds QTS, QTLS, HLTA status, or relevant experience within education
Has experience supporting students with SEND, SEMH, or additional needs
Is confident managing behaviour and using positive behaviour strategies
Can build strong relationships with young people
Is patient, resilient, and committed to helping students succeed
Has a passion for practical learning and life skills education
