Job Description:

The Safety Engineer applies knowledge and experience in System Safety philosophy, policies, and procedures to Air Force systems, subsystems, and equipment procurement activities, post-award project/program management tasks, and acquisition programs throughout their life cycles. The Safety Engineer will also perform a wide range of acquisition management activities in support of AFLCMC/WAB (FMS) A-29 aircraft and supports the acquisition program management of full life cycle requirements, subsystems and equipment.

Job Responsibility:

  • Applies knowledge and experience in System Safety philosophy, policies, and procedures to Air Force systems, subsystems, and equipment procurement activities, post-award project/program management tasks, and acquisition programs throughout their life cycles
  • Performs a wide range of acquisition management activities in support of AFLCMC/WAB (FMS) A-29 aircraft and supports the acquisition program management of full life cycle requirements, subsystems and equipment
  • Applies a full range of System Safety philosophy, policies/procedures

  • Assists in the collection of programmatic inputs from acquisition programs throughout their life cycles
  • Analyzes equipment for hardware and software deficiencies, makes recommendations for hardware and software deficiency corrections, and develops, integrates, and tests hardware and software deficiency solutions
  • Assists the Government in the engineering evaluation of prime and subcontractor recommendations for operational and support issues
  • Assists with establishing, implementing, and adhering to life cycle systems engineering (LCSE) processes to ensure operational safety, suitability, and effectiveness (OSS&E) compliance is achieved and maintained
  • Supports the Air Force Integrity Programs, maintains and updates the Critical Safety Item (CSI) list, and monitors Airworthiness Certifications for Fighter Bomber Directorate aircraft
  • Performs system safety management services
  • Assists in evaluating safety hazard analyses, identify safety issues, and recommends approval/disapproval and corrective action to engineering and program management
  • Ensures the requirements of individual items of equipment, subsystems, and support equipment are integrated and established in such a manner that adequate, complete, and effective safety requirements are met within the constraints imposed by cost, schedule, and performance

  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • A Bachelors degree plus 12 years of experience or a Masters degree plus 8 years of experience
  • Active Secret Clearance is required
  • Minimum 5 years experience in general engineering with minimum 2 years of relevant experience
