The Research Specialist I plays a critical role in advancing the scientific mission of the Flow Cytometry Resource by providing high-level technical expertise and support to investigators. This position combines hands-on laboratory work with method development, instrument operation, data acquisition, and training responsibilities, and requires the ability to independently execute complex project tasks with minimal supervision. The incumbent serves as a technical mentor to junior staff, contributes to the development and optimization of complex assays, and ensures the consistent delivery of high-quality, reproducible results. Under the direction of the Lab Director, the Research Specialist I drives innovation, supports collaborative research initiatives, and may represent the Resource at regional and national scientific meetings, enhancing the visibility and impact of the program.
Job Responsibility:
Instrument Operation: setup and maintain flow core instrumentation
Operate instruments for investigators as required following SOPs and best practices
Operate cell sorters to ensure high-quality reproducible sorting outcomes
Method Development, Standardization & Discovery: develop, evaluate, and standardize test methodologies
Contribute to innovative method-development efforts
Full-Service Investigator Support: sample preparation and staining, data acquisition, and preliminary data analysis
Experimental Design & Protocol Troubleshooting: Provides expert guidance and troubleshooting for investigators on experimental design, assay optimization, and protocol development
