This role is part of Aon Impact Forecasting team, a team of scientists, developers and client services colleagues together developing and supporting catastrophe models for various perils including flood, windstorm, earthquake, wildfire or terrorism. We are seeking a technically skilled candidate for the development of catastrophe models, with a particular focus on flood vulnerability.
Job Responsibility
Development of flood vulnerability models (the most sensitive component of a catastrophe model)
Study concepts and review scientific literature on flood vulnerability and property damage quantification
Collect, sort, and compare vulnerability functions, assess their physical characteristics, and impact on financial loss estimates
Analyze individual insurance claims for vulnerability calibration
Documenting the overall process as well as its presentation at different occasions, such as clients’ meetings, conferences or technical forums
Collaborate with model developers and colleagues developing loss calculation platforms
Requirements
University degree of civil/structural engineering or knowledge of engineering practices and construction logic
Strong analytical mindset with the ability to quickly learn new tools, methodologies and concepts
Proficient English communication skills
Knowledge of scripting or programming language to automate tasks (R, Python, or others), basics of SQL or another relational database as well as GIS/CAD is a plus
Good knowledge of MS Office (mainly Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Willingness and confidence to present your work to internal and external audiences
