The primary focus of a Flight Nurse is to provide advanced life support to reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with a deployment. The flight nurse is qualified in advanced pre-hospital emergency care and services by a competency based educational program of clinical, didactic, and practice. Roles of the flight nurse may include but are not limited to: evacuation assistance, emergency call response, inter-facility transports, on-scene stand-by, search and rescue support, hospital or shelter staffing. The flight nurse should possess the education, maturity and experience to operate safely in areas that may pose increased risks and hazards that are not typical in day-to-day emergency medical services operations.
Job Responsibility:
Autonomously evaluate critically ill or injured patients of all age groups, provide therapeutic intervention, emergency interventions, and preparation for transport
Provide patient care within the policies, protocols and guidelines
Assess for and detect changes in the status of patients
Maintain complete and accurate records, participate in unit quality assurance programs, perform data collection and participate in research activities
Communicate effectively in working with outside institutions/agencies
Plan, organize and position equipment and supplies for use in emergency conditions
Maintain contact with patients, families and referring facility personnel
Participate in clinical instruction for internal and external groups
Collect, compile and assess clinical and demographic data
Maintain clinical competence across all aspects of the scope of practice
Perform all physical requirements of job in confined spaces and under adverse environmental conditions
Complete transport missions which might require work beyond normal work hours
Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to safety procedures
Active involvement in one or more departmental committees
Represent Pafford Air Med as a customer service ambassador
Acting as an intermediary and communicator between the flight crew and flight medical team
Requirements:
Current licensure to practice in the State of Arkansas and Oklahoma
Minimum of two years current staff nursing experience (within the last 5 years)
Minimum two years critical care/emergency department experience in an intensive care or emergency department setting at a Level I or II trauma center or regional referral/tertiary care center
Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills and autonomous practice
Demonstrated leadership abilities
Demonstrated problem solving skills and independent decision making
Demonstrated outstanding interpersonal skills
Current Nursing licensure with state licensure achieved in 6 mos
Current ACLS/PALS/NRP certification
Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions
Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance
Ability to lift and/or move up to 50
Specific vision abilities
Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly
Must possess visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and operate a motor vehicle
