Job Description:

The FLEX Director, Market Strategy and Planning is responsible for driving the development and execution of the company’s strategic roadmap, conducting customer and market research, identifying growth opportunities across continents, and managing the customer listening and insights platform. This role will work closely with the Business Intelligence and Data Operations team, leveraging all technical resources available to inform critical business decisions.

Job Responsibility:

  • Owns evaluation of global enterprise performance, including Company Scorecard, Enterprise Competitive Scorecard, and goal-setting
  • Owns tracking and reporting of economic, consumer, and travel trends, including MLive trends, and drafting the Economy / Consumer slide for the Customer QBR
  • Owns competitive intelligence, including tracking broad competitive trends, moves of specific competitors, and developing perspectives on potential M&A activity within the industry
  • Develops and presents a quarterly PR update, highlighting key trends, competitor responses, and the impact on MI
  • Develops a monthly Insights Package providing insights into the business environment and Marriott’s performance
  • Prioritizes insights generation through agreements with Amex and Visa
  • Supports refinement and pull-through of the Company Strategy, including supporting development of insights / fact bases to inform annual company and continent strategy discussions
  • Connects the dots between research, analytics and business goals to develop and communicate recommendations that inform business strategy
  • Drives excellence in collaboration and communication across the organization both within the Global Insights, Strategy, and Analytics team and throughout the enterprise
  • Represents Strategy, Business Intelligence, and Data Operations (SBID) in a wide range of internal and external forums

Requirements:

  • 4-year degree from an accredited college or university
  • MBA or equivalent advanced degree required
  • Ten or more years of professional experience, demonstrating progressive career growth and a pattern of exceptional performance in insight, strategy or consultative-type roles
  • prefer at least 2 years strategy consulting experience required
  • Demonstrated ability in translating consumer insights, research and analytics into actionable strategy, and experience supporting transformational strategies for companies and/or business units
  • Experience building research and analysis-backed understanding of company performance and translating this into strategic recommendations
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results under difficult conditions, particularly when faced with complexity and ambiguity
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize business and consumer data from multiple sources into insights with practical application to business needs
  • Experience using a hypothesis-driven approach to answer a business question and identifying ways to test a hypothesis
  • Demonstrated quantitative acumen, including ability to use excel to conduct basic data analysis
