Job Description

The city of Melrose department of Public Works is seeking a skilled Fleet Working Foreman to maintain and repair a wide range of municipal fleet vehicles and heavy equipment. This full-time position plays an important role in keeping essential public works equipment safe, reliable, and operational for daily services and emergency response.

Job Responsibility

  • Diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on gasoline and diesel trucks, heavy equipment, and related machinery
  • Inspect equipment to identify mechanical issues
  • Ensure fleet tools, parts inventory, and maintenance records are properly maintained
  • Assist with seasonal equipment setup
  • Assist with emergency storm response
  • Operate welding, cutting, and other repair equipment as needed

Requirements

  • Trade school training with three-plus years of experience (or five-plus years of relevant experience)
  • ASE certification preferred
  • Valid Massachusetts CDL
  • Obtain a Public Safety Hoisting License within 90 days
