Under general supervision, performs skilled work in the repair and maintenance of automobiles, trucks, heavy equipment, and other Sewer District-owned motorized equipment and vehicles. Keeps a well-documented process of work orders, labor hours, part orders, vehicle issues, and other general maintenance and repair information using the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). Interfaces with key vendors, customers, drivers, and other personnel throughout the Sewer District to gather information and keep up-to-date records. Makes field repair calls to troubleshoot, tow and/or recover stranded vehicles. Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.
Job Responsibility:
Performs preventative maintenance, diagnoses and troubleshoots failures and makes necessary repairs of Sewer District motorized equipment including automobiles, light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks, heavy equipment, lawn care, watercraft, and off-road utility vehicles
Performs light bodywork, welding, and fabrication
Evaluates and resolves engine performance and vehicle drivability issues
Contacts and works with internal and external stakeholders, vendors to purchase, exchange, pick up and deliver vehicle parts
Makes field/roadside repair calls, including in inclement weather
Operates a Sewer District towing equipment to pick up stranded vehicles
Inspects, repairs, and/or overhauls vehicle support systems, such as Powertrain Control Module (PCM), Body Control Module (BCM), Restraint Control Module (RCM), Transmission Control Module (TCM), Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), electrical, air, suspension, hydraulics, HVAC and anti-lock brake systems (ABS)
Utilizes a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to maintain current vehicle records, documenting the maintenance and repair process, work orders, part orders, labor hours, vehicle issues, daily checklist (pre-trip inspection), and other related information
Performs routine housekeeping duties related to tools, materials, shop, and work areas
Requirements:
High school diploma or GED equivalent
Degree or certificate from an automotive trade school or related mechanic trade school (2 years of additional experience can be substituted)
Five (5) years of experience in maintaining and repairing automotive and/or diesel equipment in a professional fleet shop, dealership, or similar environment
Experience must include light, medium, and heavy-duty engines, drive trains, suspensions, steering, electrical 12/24-volt, drivability diagnostics, and minor auto and truck body repair
Working knowledge of diagnosis and repairs of off-road utility vehicles, generators, pumps, forklifts, construction equipment, etc.
At least two (2) years of recent work-related experience to include familiarity of the latest technologies in automotive vehicles
Valid driver’s license with a driving record in accordance with the Sewer District’s acceptable guidelines
Class “A” CDL with a tank endorsement “N” prior to completion of the probationary period (CDL license must be without restrictions “E, L, or Z” related to air brakes and manual transmission)
Knowledge in structural, electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems as well as Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
Experience working with related hand tools and be able to perform basic gas and arc cutting and welding effectively
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Reliable and punctual in reporting to work as scheduled
Ability to perform physical work such as standing, sitting, balancing, kneeling, crawling, handling, feeling, hearing, walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, fingering, and talking
Must be able to lift more than 100 lbs.
Ability to wear required respiratory protection devices in accordance with the Sewer District’s policy, including not having facial hair that interferes with the facepiece-to-face seal

Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications
Knowledge of transmission maintenance and repair, on board computer reflash, and programming of various electronic modules
