We are looking for someone who is comfortable performing various administrative fleet management tasks as well as familiarity with inspecting, cleaning, maintaining, and driving various types of vehicles. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Division of Business Management, Bureau of Business Services' Fleet Unit is hiring for a full-time permanent Fleet Operations Specialist position located at the Hill Farms State Office building in Madison and is required to work full time, 5 days per week in the office with frequent travel to other locations including the WisDOT Truax Madison facility.
Job Responsibility:
Reviewing vehicle maintenance requests for appropriateness of the work and cost
Utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and other software applications and databases to track vehicle upfits, maintain warranty information, communicate with vendors, and review/edit vehicle specifications
Communicating with repair shops about vehicle repairs
Reviewing vehicle upfit specifications with manufacturers such as lighting, shelving, and aerials
Inspecting/maintaining vehicles to ensure they are safe for road operations, checking oil levels, tire pressure, replacing wiper blades and batteries
Cleaning and inspecting motor pool vehicles to ensure they are ready for the next customer's reservation
Removing lightbars and other equipment from vehicles
Installing/Removing vehicle decals
Receiving new vehicles and preparing surplus vehicles for disposal
Requirements:
Experience with fleet services operations (such as procurement/disposal of company fleet vehicles {cars, trucks, vans, etc.}, managing vehicle assignments, and/or monitoring vehicle inventory)
Reviewing work orders for accuracy, relevance, and/or identifying potential cost savings
Education, training, and/or work experience related to gasoline and diesel fueled vehicles/equipment
Providing customer service to customers/clients (e.g. in-person, electronic, and/or phone communication etc.)
Nice to have:
Developing vehicle specifications
Developing an annual project plan for vehicle acquisitions/disposals
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), manufacturer, or similar training/certification(s)
Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Air Brake Endorsement
