This position works under general supervision and is primarily responsible for the maintenance and repair of turf, off-road, construction, and other light- to medium-duty equipment. Equipment serviced includes mini excavators, backhoes, mowers, trailers, sweepers, side-by-sides, UTVs, ATVs, chainsaws, string trimmers, handheld blowers, pumps, and other small- to mid-sized equipment. A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is not required for this position. Applicants with a CDL can still apply. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, troubleshooting, and solving a variety of mechanical problems. No two days are the same. Technicians work on engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, drivetrains, brakes, attachments, small engines, and some fabrication-related repairs.
Job Responsibility
Performs all duties of an entry level mechanic, in addition to providing mentoring and team coordination
Performs more complex, skilled tasks and assists others as required
Conducts preventive maintenance services on vehicles and equipment per manufacturers' specifications or City of Boise requirements
Performs safety inspections of overall vehicle or equipment
Diagnoses issues with, installs and repairs specialized equipment and systems
Repairs vehicle systems identified through preventative maintenance inspections or as required due to vehicle or equipment failure
Repairs, rebuilds or replaces components utilizing specialty tools specific to the mechanic trade
Documents repairs and services required in the fleet program
Performs fabrication and welding repairs on vehicles and equipment
Coordinates services and repairs with department designees
Greets customers and advises on type and estimated cost of repairs, repair status and time to vehicle completion
Communicates with vendors, dealers and manufacturers to facilitate warranties or sublet repairs
Assists with ordering parts and services
Processes repair orders in the computer system
Verifies accuracy of equipment meter, parts, sublet and services provided along with entry of technician comments to explain course of service or repair
Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
Associate's degree, 2 years technical/trade school or equivalent military training
4 years of experience in an automobile, heavy truck or equipment maintenance/repair organization
or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
Nice to have
Eight years of hands on combined experience in an automobile, heavy truck or equipment maintenance/repair organization
Master Level Certification by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) program in automobiles and heavy trucks
Certification in the Emergency Vehicle Technician Association (EVT) program in the areas of Airfield Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF), Fire Truck Electrical and Emergency Vehicle Technician
