An opportunity has arisen to appoint a Fixed Term Consultant in Respiratory Medicine with General Medicine to join a progressive, clinically led organisation within the North West. This post offers the chance to work within a supportive respiratory department that values teamwork, professionalism, and clinician-led service development. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of high-quality respiratory and general medical services and will be encouraged to develop a subspecialty interest that complements the existing consultant team and service needs.
Job Responsibility:
To provide, in conjunction with consultant colleagues, a comprehensive Respiratory and General Medicine service
To contribute to the ongoing development of respiratory services across the region, including outreach activity where required
To work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes and population lung health
Deliver consultant-led care in Respiratory Medicine and General Medicine, including inpatient and outpatient activity
Participate in respiratory service provision across multiple sites within the region, as required
Contribute to acute and general medical admissions through participation in the consultant on-call rota
Provide senior clinical decision-making and leadership within the multidisciplinary team
Support flexible deployment of professional time across clinical duties, administration, teaching, research, audit, and continuing medical education
Participate actively in clinical audit, service improvement, and governance activities
Participation in the Consultant General Medicine on-call rota, which attracts an availability supplement
Requirements:
Primary Medical Degree
Complete registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practise
Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) or equivalent
Completion of Higher Specialist Training (CCT) in Respiratory Medicine and General Medicine, or evidence of equivalent competence
Minimum of 1 year of NHS experience at any grade
Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients
Excellent communication skills with patients, relatives, colleagues, and management
Ability to organise and manage workload efficiently
Experience of, and commitment to, medical audit and clinical governance
Participation in research activities and quality improvement initiatives
Empathetic and patient-centred approach to care
Strong interpersonal skills and effectiveness within a multidisciplinary team
Positive, reflective approach to learning and service improvement
Demonstrable commitment to lifelong learning, peer review, and professional development
Ability to travel as required to fulfil the duties of the post

Entry on the GMC Specialist Register
Additional postgraduate qualifications or relevant training
Commitment to, and experience in, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
Experience in audit management
Publications in peer-reviewed journals
Experience supervising postgraduate research
Well-developed IT skills
Evidence of continued professional and personal development beyond mandatory requirements
