This role sits within the Technical Costs Department and will focus on managing cost-related matters across a range of cases. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing fixed costs files, considering and making offers, negotiating settlement, preparing costs schedules, and negotiating costs. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the efficient resolution of cost disputes while working collaboratively within a specialist team.
Job Responsibility:
Managing your own caseload of RTA Claimant fixed-cost matters with confidence and ownership
Reviewing and negotiating costs claims promptly and proactively
Developing and applying effective strategies for disputed claims
Working closely with fee earners and management to support case progression
Providing clear instructions to our in‑house legal costs litigation team
Supporting colleagues and contributing to a positive team environment
Preparing Precedent U cost schedules for Trial and Disposal hearings
Building strong working relationships with Third Party Solicitors and insurers
Reviewing client balances and working with our finance team to ensure SRA Accounts Rules compliance
Meeting performance targets while maintaining quality and consistency
Requirements:
Strong working knowledge of legal costs and the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR), including Pre-Action Protocols
Confidence in assessing fixed-cost arguments and responding with well-reasoned counterpoints
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach
Comfortable working with numbers, particularly in assessing and calculating costs
Strong time-management skills, with the ability to stay organised in a fast-paced environment
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel
A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to meet objectives efficiently
Nice to have:
Experience with case management systems is advantageous but not essential
