The Diabetes Prevention Programs at the Valentine Parker Jr Youth Prevention Center and the Four Hills of Life Wellness Center are seeking a highly motivated, self-directed individual to join our program as a part-time Fitness Technician. Incumbent will assist with implementing after-school activities at the Prevention Center and supervising evening and weekend hours at the Wellness Center. The after-school hours will be filled with teaching, coordinating, carrying out, and supervising activities and guiding youth in personal growth. Evening and weekend hours will include assisting with activities and supervising open hours at the Wellness Center as well as picking up the facility and preparing activities for the next day. The candidate will manage groups of youth, maintain daily records of participants and programs, supervise activities and open gym hours, and offer input for program and activity development. We seek candidates who will serve as a positive role model for youth, staff, and community members by demonstrating positive, healthy behaviors.
Job Responsibility:
Participate in the development and implementation of program activities for youth at the Prevention Center
Actively engage with and manage small groups of youth during programs and activities
Assist in the direction, supervision and organization of youth within activities
Supervise evening and weekend open hours at the Wellness Center
Maintain daily records of participants and programs
Explain and fairly and consistently enforce facility, equipment, and program rules
Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for participants and staff
Represent the program in interactions within the community
Maintain equipment inventories, and select, store, or issue equipment as needed
Assist with the maintenance and upkeep of fitness and program equipment
Administer emergency first aid or refer injured persons to physicians, as needed
Perform daily housekeeping duties, ensuring clean and sanitary facilities
Maintain regular and punctual working hours
Requirements:
Experience working in recreational programs supervising, leading, and engaging in activities based on the developmental needs of young people
High School Diploma or GED
CPR/First Aid Certification (or within 6 months of hire)
Must pass background check and pre-employment drug screen
Valid Driver's License
Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents and community leaders
Strong communication skills, both oral and written
Ability to deal effectively with members including discipline problems
