We are seeking a dedicated Fish Health Specialist to join the Mowi Canada East Fish Health team at our aquaculture operations based in Harbour Breton, NL. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting the health, welfare, and performance of our farmed Atlantic salmon across multiple marine sites. You will work closely with the farming team, veterinarians, and provincial regulators to ensure proactive, science-based fish health strategies and exceptional operational support.
Job Responsibility:
Conduct routine health assessments at production sea sites and their supplying hatcheries
Monitor, investigate and report on fish health issues, including pathogens, parasites, and environmental stressors
Support the implementation of bio-security protocols and health management plans
Routinely collect and analyze diagnostic samples (gills, blood, tissues, water quality)
Monitor fish behavior, mortality trends, and treatment responses
Assist with sea lice management, vaccination programs, and veterinary-prescribed treatments
Maintain accurate health records and contribute to data-driven decision-making
Work collaboratively with production teams to promote industry-leading fish welfare standards
Respond to urgent or emerging fish health events as required
Requirements:

Strong verbal, written, and digital communication skills
Accuracy in data collection and record keeping
Ability to work outdoors in variable weather and travel by boat
Physical ability for hands-on or repetitive tasks
Willingness to travel to Mowi sites across Atlantic Canada
Valid driver’s licence and clean abstract
Legal eligibility to work in Canada
Degree in Biology, Aquaculture, Marine Science, or related field
Experience in fish health, aquatic pathology, or aquaculture operations preferred
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree
Eligibility for (or registration with) the relevant Veterinary Licensing Authorities within Atlantic Canada
Experience with aquatic species is an asset, but not required
Experience in production animal medicine
