Mowi Ireland is offering an excellent opportunity for a candidate to join our Fish Health Department as a Marine Biologist to support in the monitoring and management of cleaner-fish technology (biological control of sea-lice on salmon through use of species of wrasse and lump-suckers) and regular salmon health surveillance. The successful candidate will play a key role within the organisation contributing to reaching the strategic goals of the company and the Seawater Department.
Job Responsibility:
Salmon & Cleaner Fish Health Surveillance
Technical, research & development trials
Ensure best husbandry practices for Cleaner fish in conjunction with salmon stocks
Reporting and analysing stock data (weekly and monthly)
Coaching and information sharing with site staff
refining cleanerfish routines and protocols
Assistance with training of site staff for our water quality and plankton monitoring programme
Production of regular weekly or bi-weekly Cleaner fish/Fish health updates
Requirements:
An honours degree in a life science or veterinary discipline
Strong and practical knowledge of fish health management
Project management experience, analytical skills and ability to work with operations and scientific partners
Proficiency with standard IT / software systems
Good organisational and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills within a professional environment
Self-motivated and result oriented
Nice to have:
A minimum of two /three years’ experience fish health would be an advantage
Ability to integrate research and technical knowledge into operational activities
