Job Description:

The City of Chandler Fire Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Firefighter. The closing date for this position is May 17, 2026. Applicants that meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to move forward to take the written examination though the National Testing Network (NTN) starting June 1, 2026. Current City of Chandler employees may only hold one position and are not eligible for additional part-time or secondary positions within the City of Chandler.

Job Responsibility:

  • Protect the life and property within the City of Chandler and the surrounding communities
  • responding to and mitigating emergency and non-emergency incidents
  • these incidents include house and building fires, emergency rescue, hazardous material response, emergency medical services, welfare and well-being of the community and to promote and maintain public safety within the City of Chandler Fire Department's response area

Requirements:

  • A High school diploma or GED equivalency at time of application
  • must be at least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of application
  • current (within 12 months prior to the beginning of the Internship) Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) Certification (proof will be required at time of Internship invitation)
  • ability to obtain and maintain State of Arizona Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification prior to graduation from the Fire Academy, or proof of current State of Arizona EMT Certification prior to graduation from the Fire Academy
  • ability to obtain and maintain the Firefighter I & II Certifications prior to graduation from the Fire Academy
  • must meet the qualifications to wear a tight-fitting respirator by passing a medical evaluation test in accordance with CFR 1910.134 by hire date and must maintain certification
  • must meet and maintain the National Fire Protection Association standard 1582 Chapter 5.1 Essential Job Tasks
  • valid Arizona Driver's License with acceptable driving record (proof will be required at time of conditional offer)
  • any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work
