Purpose: Responsible for the design of fire protection engineering systems. Design work includes fire sprinkler, fire suppression, fire pump, fire alarm, and life safety systems.

Job Responsibility

  • Design fire protection and life safety systems
  • Perform hydrant flow testing under supervision
  • Perform fire protection design calculations including hydraulic analysis of fire water supply and demand
  • Prepare project documents to track successful implementation from start to finish
  • Apply knowledge of fire protection code and standards in broad areas of assignments
  • Develop a working knowledge of codes applicable to the discipline
  • Attend coordination and design meetings, as needed
  • Complete work according to standard design principles and practices and in compliance with company standards and quality system procedures
  • Perform non-routine and complex assignments from verbal instructions under minimum supervision
  • Review all work for completeness and accuracy prior to submitting for review
  • May coordinate the design work for a project
  • May work on multiple projects at one time
  • Work closely with more senior staff members to learn and assist in design work
  • Attend and participate in project meetings

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, required
  • Three or more (3+) years of drafting and engineering technician experience in the fire protection industry
  • Must be proficient with Revit design software
  • Experience with computer applications and fire protection engineering design software such as AutoSprink and familiarity with reading construction plans
