Purpose: Responsible for the design of fire protection engineering systems. Design work includes fire sprinkler, fire suppression, fire pump, fire alarm, and life safety systems.
Job Responsibility:
Design fire protection and life safety systems
Perform hydrant flow testing under supervision
Perform fire protection design calculations including hydraulic analysis of fire water supply and demand
Prepare project documents to track successful implementation from start to finish
Apply knowledge of fire protection code and standards in broad areas of assignments
Develop a working knowledge of codes applicable to the discipline
Attend coordination and design meetings, as needed
Complete work according to standard design principles and practices and in compliance with company standards and quality system procedures
Perform non-routine and complex assignments from verbal instructions under minimum supervision
Review all work for completeness and accuracy prior to submitting for review
May coordinate the design work for a project
May work on multiple projects at one time
Work closely with more senior staff members to learn and assist in design work
Attend and participate in project meetings
Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED, required
Three or more (3+) years of drafting and engineering technician experience in the fire protection industry
Must be proficient with Revit design software
Experience with computer applications and fire protection engineering design software such as AutoSprink and familiarity with reading construction plans
Nice to have:
Associate's degree preferred
