The Fire Chief is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating all fire service activities, with a focus on the standards and technology required to provide exemplary fire and emergency medical services to the community. The Derry Fire Department is a 78-member full-service department, operating within a $13.2M budget to provide prevention and response services through five integrated areas – Fire, EMS, Emergency Communications, Fire Prevention, and Emergency Management. Responding to over 5,000 calls for service annually, we operate out of four fire stations located throughout the town, with additional personnel currently staffed at the Municipal Center. Our daily line staffing model consists of 15 Firefighter/EMT/Paramedics who are cross-trained to provide dual-role services on a Paramedic Engine, Truck Company, and/or an ALS Ambulance. We are the only Fire department in the state of New Hampshire to have achieved accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services and are highly respected for our excellence in service.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree
At least ten years of progressively responsible experience in the fire services
Proven leadership skills
A high level of integrity and accountability
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive working relationships, both internally and externally
