Job Description

We’re Chilled Pubs — 7 food-led gastro pubs across the Midlands, built on warm hospitality, seriously good food & drink, and teams full of personality. We’re looking for a Financial Controller to lead finance across Chilled Pubs; keeping us accurate, organised and compliant, while helping us make smarter decisions for the future. We’re a family-run business, which means we care deeply about the details. But we also need someone who is curious — someone who wants to improve processes, ask the right challenging questions, and help us turn insights into better business decisions. We already invest heavily in our own systems & reporting - so we’re looking for someone who gets excited by clear information, and finding better ways to work.

Job Responsibility

  • Producing period-end management accounts across multiple businesses/entities
  • As a sole accountant, completing the whole accountant cycle from beginning to end ready for external audit
  • Reporting and analyzing stock counts and variances
  • Fixed asset management and capital control
  • Budgeting, forecasting and cashflow management
  • Managing financial processes across multiple companies and sites
  • Overseeing and reviewing monthly payroll processing
  • Keeping us compliant with payroll rules
  • Managing bank payments, reconciliations, credit control and credit card transactions
  • Organising statutory requirements, including VAT, tax and payroll
  • Leading, supporting and developing the accounts team
  • Managing the annual external audit process
  • Improving systems, processes and ways of working across finance

Requirements

  • Hands-on and detail-focused
  • Curious, organised and process-minded
  • Commercially switched on
  • Confident with Excel, accounting software and improving systems
  • Interested in how AI can improve the way finance works
  • Able to lead a small team
  • Comfortable working across multiple sites, companies and moving parts
  • Good at explaining financial information clearly to non-finance people
  • Calm, trustworthy and happy to challenge when needed
  • Preferably from a manufacturing background
  • Qualified or part-qualified — ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent — or very nearly there
