A well-established Western Massachusetts manufacturing and distribution company is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead accounting operations and support executive leadership. This is a key hands-on role for a strong accounting leader with deep manufacturing cost accounting experience.
Job Responsibility:
Lead and manage the accounting team (A/R, A/P, Payroll)
Maintain and oversee the standard cost system, including analysis of: Purchase price variance (PPV)
Production, usage, labor, and overhead variances
Absorption, scrap, and rework impact
Own the monthly close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of: Inventory adjustments
Standard cost variances
Freight-in and landed cost allocations
Rebates, accruals, and reserves
Reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly and ensure subledger integrity (A/R, A/P, Inventory)
Prepare and deliver a timely monthly financial reporting package to management and banking partners
Partner with the CFO on: Standard cost reviews and cost rolls
Annual budget preparation and periodic forecasts
Weekly working capital review
Support capital expenditure requests and post-investment tracking
Lead coordination of annual CPA review and support bank field exams/audits
Maintain strong internal controls and audit documentation
Coordinate annual insurance renewals with brokers and carriers
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
5–7+ years of progressive experience in a corporate or manufacturing-focused accounting/finance leadership role
Strong background in manufacturing standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory accounting
Advanced Excel skills (PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data analysis)
Experience working with manufacturing ERP systems preferred
Proven ability to work cross‑functionally with operations, sales, external auditors, and banking partners
Strong ownership mentality, deadline discipline, and attention to detail
