We are partnering with a high-growth e-commerce and FMCG business to appoint an experienced Financial Controller based in Hemel Hempstead. With strong trading performance across UK and US markets, this role will play a critical part in managing financial operations within a fast-paced, high-volume environment. The business operates internationally and is exposed to cross-border trading, currency movements, and evolving tariff landscapes, making this a commercially strategic finance leadership position. Job Responsibility

  • Lead and manage the full finance function, overseeing day-to-day accounting operations
  • Own the month-end and year-end close process
  • Prepare accurate and timely management accounts
  • Produce statutory accounts and manage the external audit process
  • Strengthen internal controls and financial governance
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting cycles
  • Provide commercial analysis across UK and US trading performance
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, and FX exposure
  • Support financial planning around US market expansion and tariff impact
  • Partner with operations and supply chain teams to manage inventory, landed costs, and margin optimisation
  • Provide insight into pricing strategy considering import/export duties and cost pressures

Requirements

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent)
  • Proven experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, or Senior Accountant
  • Strong background within e-commerce, retail, or FMCG environments
  • Experience trading in US markets and understanding cross-border finance
  • Strong inventory and stock accounting experience
  • Confident leading audits and improving financial controls
  • Commercially minded with strong stakeholder engagement skills
  • Experience managing or mentoring finance staff

Nice to have

Exposure to tariffs, import/export duties, or landed cost modelling is highly desirable
