We are looking for a Financial Analyst to join a nonprofit organization in Gardena, California on a contract-to-permanent basis. In this role, you will evaluate financial and operational information, identify meaningful trends and variances, and present well-supported recommendations that help leadership make informed decisions. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented individual who can work across multiple datasets and business functions while supporting financial accuracy, compliance, and process improvement. This is a fully onsite role in Gardena, California; candidates must already be local to the area.
Job Responsibility:
Analyze accounting, billing, budgeting, payroll, and human resources reports to assess accuracy, completeness, timing, and financial impact
Develop monthly financial summaries and variance reports for leadership, including clear findings and practical recommendations for follow-up action
Identify patterns and emerging trends in financial data to strengthen reporting quality and support compliance with contractual, regulatory, and accreditation standards
Partner with teams across finance, payroll, billing, human resources, and technology to investigate discrepancies and resolve reconciliation issues efficiently
Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger, handle reconciliations and reversals
Review problematic billing claims, make necessary corrections, resubmit claims, and recommend process improvements to reduce future denials or returns
Conduct recurring audits of retirement and other financial accounts, ensuring records are supported and issues are addressed in a timely manner
Prepare schedules and supporting analyses for cost reporting, including operational volume, staffing metrics, overhead data, and other financial details
Maintain organized documentation for reporting and audit readiness, and contribute information needed during internal or external reviews
Provide ad hoc financial analysis related to business matters, contracts, and operational planning as requested by management
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or a closely related field
At least three years of experience in a highly analytical administrative environment, including two years focused on financial analysis and data control
Demonstrated strength in financial analysis, variance analysis, financial modeling, and ad hoc reporting
Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, and data mining techniques used to interpret and manage financial information
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to solve problems collaboratively and professionally
Valid Class C driver's license or higher, or another reliable means of transportation that supports the duties of the role, subject to organizational requirements
Nonprofit experience highly preferred
