Job Description:

Financial Accountant role at the University of Huddersfield, responsible for statutory reporting, tax strategy, subsidiary oversight, and financial governance. The role involves leading a team, partnering with auditors, and advising colleagues across the institution in a vibrant campus environment.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead annual Financial Statements under UK GAAP (FRS 102), OfS Accounts Direction and FEHE SORP
  • Manage VAT, Corporation Tax and employment taxes
  • Provide expert guidance on international tax and commercial activity VAT treatments
  • Be day-to-day contact with external auditors
  • Coordinate year-end working papers
  • Ensure robust reporting and governance across subsidiary companies and joint ventures
  • Manage treasury operations including daily cash positions, forecasting, and banking relationships
  • Ensure regulatory compliance while continuously improving processes
  • Provide direction and support to the Assistant Financial Accountant and Treasury Accountant
  • Spot opportunities to enhance systems, controls and ways of working

Requirements:

  • ACMA, ACCA, ACA or similar qualification with current technical knowledge
  • Substantial financial accounting background working with large/complex organisations with group structures
  • Strong FRS 102 knowledge, ideally with FEHE SORP and OfS Accounts Direction experience
  • Solid working knowledge of VAT and Corporation Tax
  • Experience working closely with external auditors
  • Line management experience
  • Ability to influence senior people and build strong relationships across different areas
  • Ability to explain complex financial matters to non-finance colleagues
  • Strong IT skills and enthusiasm for championing a "digital first" approach
