Reporting to the Financial Controller, the successful candidate will support the overall financial management of the Institute by coordinating financial transaction processing, supporting audits, and attending to statutory financial reporting. You will play a key role in maintaining general ledger integrity and providing high-quality technical advice regarding Australian Accounting Standards and the Victorian Financial Management Compliance Framework.
Job Responsibility:
General Ledger & Financial Control: Manage end-to-end transaction processing, journal adjustments, and account reconciliations to ensure ledger integrity
Asset & Expenditure Oversight: Monitor capital and operating costs against budgets while maintaining the fixed asset register and depreciation schedules
Treasury & Cash Management: Invest and manage corporate funds in alignment with Treasury policy, Ministerial directions, and cash flow requirements
Taxation & Statutory Compliance: Prepare and lodge all tax returns (GST, FBT, Payroll Tax) and lead the FMCF compliance framework
Audit & Process Improvement: Support internal/external audits and financial statement preparation while identifying ways to streamline internal controls
Stakeholder & Team Development: Build professional relationships and mentor staff to build technical expertise and a culture of continuous improvement
Requirements:
Extensive, relevant experience in a similar financial role and current knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and other applicable financial reporting requirements
Proven specialist experience in the finance and accounting field, including in the management of financial resources, project management, banking, and asset management operations in a public sector organisation
Proven knowledge and skills including the ability to provide sound advice and guidance to managers and employees on a broad range of finance and accounting issues
Ability to build team capability and commitment through mentoring relationships. Ability to identify potential issues and setbacks and guides team to optimise outcomes
Ability to critically analyse issues from different perspectives and draw sound inferences from information available
Qualification in Accounting, Finance or related field
Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa
Nice to have:
CPA/CA Qualification or working towards
Technology One system experience (highly regarded)
Previous TAFE or education sector experience (highly regarded)
