Robert Half is partnering with a well-established organization in the Greater Hartford area seeking a Finance Manager to join its leadership team. This position will work closely with senior finance leadership and play a key role in overseeing accounting operations, budgeting, financial reporting, treasury activities, and departmental administration. Job Responsibility:
Assist with oversight of daily finance operations including accounting, budgeting, treasury, payroll, revenue, and financial reporting activities
Support management of the general ledger, month-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, fixed assets, and financial analysis
Monitor budget-to-actual reporting and assist with forecasting and financial planning activities
Support annual audit processes and help strengthen internal controls, compliance, and financial policies
Assist with development and administration of annual operating and program budgets
Prepare financial reporting and supporting schedules for leadership and external stakeholders
Partner with department leaders to ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and budget guidelines
Provide financial guidance and operational support across departments
Assist with grant accounting and oversight of externally funded programs
Support pension, benefits, and related financial reporting activities
Help drive process improvements, modernization initiatives, and operational efficiencies
Supervise and support finance-related staff while assisting with departmental workflow and performance management
Serve as backup to senior finance leadership when needed
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including supervisory responsibilities
Prior accounting or audit experience within a nonprofit organization
Strong knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, cash management, audits, and internal controls
Experience with grant accounting and restricted funding preferred
Familiarity with nonprofit accounting principles and compliance requirements
Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and lookup functions
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across departments
Nice to have:
Experience within nonprofit organizations with multiple funding sources
Exposure to grants management, budgeting, or externally funded programs
Experience with ERP systems such as MUNIS or similar accounting platforms
