Job Description:

Allen Lane are currently supporting a Authority client to appoint an experienced Interim Finance Manager for an initial 6-month assignment. This is a pivotal role providing strategic and operational financial leadership across High Needs and Early Years Dedicated Schools Grant (DSG). Reporting into senior finance leadership, you will manage one direct report and act as the finance lead across a complex and high-profile funding portfolio. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing finance function and make an immediate impact in a complex education funding environment.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead on High Needs and Early Years DSG funding
  • Ensure accurate allocation and calculation of DSG funding within agreed timetables
  • Review funding support for pupils and students under the DSG formula
  • Agree annual budgets with service managers and provide robust financial challenge
  • Deliver monthly budget monitoring and forecasting with service leads
  • Provide advice and guidance to schools and academies
  • Ensure completion of statutory government returns

Requirements:

  • CCAB qualified (or equivalent) accountant
  • Strong experience within local authority education finance
  • In-depth understanding of DSG, High Needs, and Early Years funding
  • Experience working with schools and academies in a complex environment
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, statutory returns, and financial governance
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
