In partnership with our client, an international company operating in the maritime sector, we are recruiting a Finance Executive for Funchal. The Finance Executive will be responsible for managing and overseeing all financial operations of the Company in Madeira. The role covers financial planning, reporting, compliance, ensuring the company’s financial health and adherence to local and international maritime regulations. Previous experience in shipping, port operations, freight, or ship finance is essential. The Finance Executive will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer.
Job Responsibility:
Manage and guide the finance team, set performance metrics, and foster professional development
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including maritime-specific key performance indicators
Actively participate in budgeting and financial forecasting
Manage cash flow, accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, and transactions related to ship operations
Ensure compliance with Portuguese tax legislation and international maritime regulations
Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and detailed financial analyses of operational matters
Identify cost optimization opportunities
Provide financial insights to management to support strategic decisions related to ship operations or expansion
Collaborate with departments across the company to ensure financial efficiency
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or related fields
Minimum 3–5 years of financial experience in the maritime sector (shipping, ports, freight, ship financing)
Solid knowledge of accounting, financial reporting, Portuguese tax regulations, and international maritime standards
Experience with financial ERP systems and reporting tools (e.g., Sage, SAP)
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and results-oriented mindset
Excellent communication skills in Portuguese and English
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Nice to have:
Experience in ship financial management or ship finance
Knowledge of shipping related contracts
Experience in startups or growing companies in the maritime sector
Ability to lead teams and strategic financial projects
