Job Description:
We’re looking for a Finance Director to help understand and drive our onboarding, activation, adoption, customer success, retention, renewal, and collection efforts. Ah, but if you jump to any conclusion here and think we actually have those efforts already in any kind of sane, super smart operation already happening… You would be painfully mistaken when you took the job. It’s not that you’d be building the airplane as we fly it. You would also be sourcing the parts, bringing some sanity to a couple hundred people’s efforts and plans, and helping them understand the story the data is telling us, and then maybe strapped onto the plane with a square knot because that’s all the guy holding the rope knew how to tie. No. You don’t get an overhand knot. It’s just a square knot. The real question here is: Can you see the story the numbers tell you? If not, this job will be miserable for you. Even more so, can you see the story that you should be telling but don’t have the numbers or data to even begin to tell it, and have the gumption and communication skills to get to the data and put yourself in a position to tell the story. It’s easy to find people who can report numbers. Hard to find people who can see the story and then see the moves the story tells us to make. We seek you. The storyteller. But more importantly, you also need to be a do-er. You’ll need to see the next moves and then be able to navigate a feral squirrely company. You’ll need to be a scrappy schemer. You’ll need to work well with people but also really enjoy and thrive in an environment where you’re making it up as you go. You’ll have to be comfortable relentlessly seeking the best outcomes and learning from your failures, as there will be a lot here. We handle millions and millions of customers’ businesses and somewhere around 100 million transactions a year. It’s high, high volume and about 1500 people running around trying to channel the energy. By the time we find the right person for this role, it will probably 2,000 employees and by the time you know left from right, it might be more like 2500-3000 employees so you better be drowning in corporate boringness currently and go home every day just feeling like you have to stuff yourself with 3 times as much bad food as you should have because you’re so freaking depressed about drowning in your current companies soulless boring corporate bureaucracy. If you feel that. Put that second cheeseburger down and come home. Come where it matters. We’re a small family-owned and operated company that competes with corporate soulless giants. Help us understand churn and renewals, efficiency on our spending, and help us keep our profit in line so we can keep our millions of customers out of harm’s way. Institutional investors, Venture Capital, Private Equity, and Public companies ruin America. We stand as the last great firewall to hold the line against the corporate greed of how the system we all live in works. But it’s hard. It’s tough when your competitors make 1.5 billion of free cash flow every year. That should excite you. Not freak you out. We don’t just screw with Corporate Giants. Executives get fired because we screw up quarters and years by providing next-level services at prices that investor-owned companies don’t care to offer. We use their corporate robot brainwashed playbook against them.
