Empower every person and organization on the planet to achieve more. That’s what inspires us, drives our work, and pushes us to challenge the status quo every day. Through our Cloud-first strategy, we strive to deliver solutions that are optimized for the world and enable customers to drive their business more successfully. The Cloud Product Infrastructure Margin team is an exciting and fast-evolving finance team at the forefront of Microsoft’s Cloud-first strategy. The DC Infrastructure and Strategy team leads portfolio decision-making for new data center investments. As a team leader, you'll steer strategic partnerships and competitive intelligence to maintain Microsoft Cloud's market edge. We're seeking a Finance Director, Data Center Investments and Deals to serve as the lead financial owner for major infrastructure investments, including land, power and data center leases, supporting Microsoft’s global cloud expansion. This role combines investment underwriting, deal structuring, and portfolio strategy, with direct responsibility for cash flow modeling, valuation, risk assessment, and executive decision support. The individual will lead a high‑performing team of analysts, setting the analytical bar for Microsoft’s global data center investment decisions.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead end‑to‑end investment underwriting and deal execution for large‑scale data center investments, including land acquisition, land development, leases, and build decisions
  • Own detailed cash flow, valuation, and downside scenario models used for executive approvals and long‑range capital planning
  • Partner directly with acquisition, engineering, and operations leaders to structure and negotiate transactions, balancing price, flexibility, speed to market, and capital efficiency
  • Drive build vs. lease and alternative structuring analyses using total cost of ownership, IRR, NPV, and risk‑adjusted return frameworks
  • Drive portfolio-level alignment for data center investments, across different form factors, existing presence in the region and accounting for impact from strategic partnerships
  • Synthesize diverse data sources into clear executive summaries for leadership decisions

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 8+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field OR Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 10+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field OR equivalent experience
  • 1+ year(s) experience managing direct reports
  • Experience in infrastructure finance, project finance, real assets investing, corporate development, or investment banking
  • 5+ years work experience in the technology or software industry
  • 5+ years work experience in matrix-based organization
  • 5+ years experience in multinationals with multi-product/multi-segment finance roles
  • 3+ years experience managing direct reports
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 12+ years of post-graduate financial analysis, accounting, controllership, or finance work experience OR Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 15+ years of post-graduate financial analysis, accounting, controllership, or finance work experience OR equivalent experience
