The Massachusetts Municipal Association (MMA) is seeking a full-time Finance and Accounting Manager to oversee all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, payroll accounting, audit coordination, and financial operations of the organization. The Finance and Accounting Manager works closely with the Deputy Executive Director, Executive Leadership, external auditors and related member organizations. About the MIIA: The Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association (MIIA) provides property, liability, workers compensation, and group health insurance to cities and towns in Massachusetts. MIIA is a non-profit organization and subsidiary of MMA. About the position: Under the direction of the Deputy Executive Director, the Finance and Accounting Manager will manage all accounts receivable and accounts payable functions for the organization. They will manage accounting functions and financial activities for member groups and affiliated organizations. Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate recording of all financial transactions. They will prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting schedules and reconcile all bank accounts, investment accounts, credit card accounts, and balance sheet accounts. Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and accounting transactions and maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules. Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and organizational policies. Develop and enhance accounting procedures and internal controls. Lead budget preparation and monitor budget vs actual for Management reporting. Prepare documentation and workpaper and manage all processes related to the annual independent audit. Serve as primary liaison with external auditors. Preparation and control of annual audit. Post and record payroll transactions and related journal entries. Reconcile payroll accounts and payroll-related liabilities. Submit retirement contributions and ensure timely funding of retirement plans. Oversees accounting staff and provides coaching, training, and performance management.
