Job Description:

Our client, a leading financial institution, is seeking an experienced Accountant V for a 6-month contract opportunity with strong potential for extension or conversion. This role is based in Toronto, ON with a hybrid work model requiring four days onsite at 66 Wellington Street West. The successful candidate will join the Product Control / Finance team and will play a key role in performing upfront financial analysis, balance sheet interpretation, and regional P&L review related to capital markets and banking operations. This position requires a hands-on accounting professional who can work closely with stakeholders across finance teams and contribute to process improvements related to financial reporting and analysis. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced banking environment and has strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial structures.

Job Responsibility:

  • Perform detailed balance sheet analysis and ensure accuracy of financial reporting
  • Review and interpret regional P&L results and underlying business drivers
  • Support the Product Control / Finance team with upfront financial analysis
  • Work closely with regional finance teams to understand entity structure, revenue transfers, and tax impacts
  • Analyze financial data to identify variances, risks, and trends
  • Assist with process changes related to financial reporting and analysis
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across finance and business teams
  • Support ad-hoc analytics, reporting, and documentation as required
  • Maintain strong controls and ensure compliance with internal policies

Requirements:

  • University degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (mandatory)
  • Minimum 5+ years of accounting or finance experience, preferably in banking or financial services
  • Strong experience working with balance sheets and regional P&L analysis
  • Prior experience in the banking sector required
  • Solid analytical skills with ability to interpret complex financial data
  • Experience interacting with finance stakeholders and cross-functional teams

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of capital markets products is an asset
  • Experience with regional tax, entity structures, or revenue transfer analysis is an asset
  • Technical skills such as Excel macros, VBA, or Python scripting are considered an asset
  • Professional designation such as CPA or CFA (nice to have)
