Job Description

Our client is executing a massive wireless infrastructure modernization initiative across provincial healthcare and institutional facilities. We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Network Engineer / Field Technician to join a dedicated site-deployment team. Working as part of a structured, two-person team under the direction of a Senior Network Lead, you will execute the physical installation, site analysis, and on-site deployment of enterprise-grade wireless networks. This is an active, field-based role that perfectly bridges practical, physical infrastructure deployment with foundational network engineering. Hours: 40 hours per week (Must be available for off-hours and weekend windows as project cutovers require). Location: Hybrid (3 days per week based out of Winnipeg, MB, with regular travel to deployment sites across the province). Travel: All travel expenses to client sites are fully reimbursed. Duration - 6 months.

Job Responsibility

  • Wireless AP Deployment: Position and deploy wireless access points (APs) across diverse facilities in strict accordance with engineered placement plans and architectural designs
  • Hardware & Cabling Installation: Perform hands-on structured cabling, rack mounting, patching, and equipment racking of enterprise switching gear, APs, and power backup units
  • Site Surveys & RF Assessment: Conduct critical pre-deployment and post-deployment wireless site assessments and RF radio surveys using specialized engineering tools
  • Technical Reporting: Produce clean, data-driven wireless site survey reports detailing coverage findings, actual AP placements, and structural remediation recommendations
  • Configuration Application: Apply foundational network configurations to newly deployed infrastructure under the direction of the Senior Network Lead
  • Power Infrastructure Management: Install, configure, and swap out local Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units supporting the localized network stacks
  • First-Level Troubleshooting: Provide first-line diagnostic troubleshooting and localized post-commissioning support immediately following a site's project handover
  • Asset Tracking & Logistics: Maintain immaculate installation logs, inventory change records, and site-specific completion documentation
  • Safety & Compliance: Strictly adhere to institutional access protocols, workplace safety measures, and infection control standards across operational facilities

Requirements

  • Minimum 2+ years of practical experience deploying wireless access points and associated network routing/switching hardware in enterprise, industrial, or institutional environments
  • Demonstrated experience conducting physical wireless site assessments and a strong familiarity with RF propagation concepts
  • Hands-on experience utilizing industry-standard wireless site survey tools such as Ekahau, AirMagnet, or an equivalent application
  • Expert familiarity with structured cabling standards, rack equipment mounting, physical patching, and UPS installation
  • Proven ability to read, interpret, and implement complex network configuration and deployment blueprint documentation
  • Must be based in the Winnipeg, MB area, holding a valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle access for provincial field travel
  • Must hold or be completely willing to undergo a standard provincial police background clearance process prior to onboarding

Nice to have

  • Hands-on experience deploying Aruba or Cisco enterprise wireless product lines
  • Basic familiarity with cloud-managed networking interfaces like Aruba Central or Cisco wireless management dashboards
  • Prior IT field deployment experience within healthcare, government, or heavily regulated facilities
  • Foundational networking certifications (such as a CCNA, Aruba Associate, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent) are considered a strong asset
