We are looking for an experienced Telecoms Field Engineer to support VodafoneThree’s delivery of telecoms infrastructure across the SPEN (Scottish Power Energy Networks) estate. This role involves installation, maintenance, and fault resolution on mission-critical telecoms systems used for protection, control, and operational communications within substations and transmission/distribution environments.
Job Responsibility:
Install, commission, and maintain telecoms equipment across SPEN substations
Support planned works, reactive faults, and emergency callouts
Complete configuration, testing, and documentation to Vodafone/SPEN standards
Liaise with customer (SPEN) site leads, Vodafone NOC, project managers, and other contractors
Ensure all works comply with safety rules, permits, and electrical network procedures
Provide accurate reporting, job close-out, and asset updates
Maintain tools, test equipment, and vehicle to required standards
Requirements:
Telecoms field engineering experience (ideally in utilities, energy networks, or critical infrastructure)
Strong knowledge of fibre optics (OTDR, patching, testing)
Experience with IP networking, routers, switches, VLANs, and network diagnostics
Understanding of SPEN or similar DNO/TSO environments
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and method statements
Full UK driving licence
Comfortable working on substations
Electrical safety training (EUSR, SHEA Power, Substation Entry, CSCS/NPORS)
Experience with tele-protection systems and power network communications
XTran/ABB/Siemens/Alcatel equipment experience
Working knowledge of NRSWA, IPAF, or climbing/towers tickets
Familiarity with transmission systems (SDH, PDH, DWDM, MPLS, XTran, IEC interfaces)
