JOB SUMMARY: THE SERVICE & ASSEMBLY TECHNICIAN PERFORMS A HYBRID ROLE SUPPORTING BOTH FIELD OPERATIONS AND SHOP ASSEMBLY ACTIVITIES. THIS POSITION ASSISTS WITH RIG UP AND RIG DOWN (RU/RD) OPERATIONS OF FRAC AND WELLHEAD EQUIPMENT AT CUSTOMER JOB SITES WHILE ALSO SUPPORTING ASSEMBLY, DISASSEMBLY, MAINTENANCE, AND PREPARATION OF EQUIPMENT IN THE SHOP WHEN FIELD WORK IS NOT SCHEDULED. THE ROLE REQUIRES STRONG MECHANICAL APTITUDE, THE ABILITY TO WORK SAFELY IN BOTH FIELD AND SHOP ENVIRONMENTS, AND THE FLEXIBILITY TO SUPPORT CHANGING OPERATIONAL DEMANDS.
Job Responsibility:
Assist Field Service Technicians with rig up and rig down of frac and wellhead equipment at customer job sites
Inspect equipment prior to installation to ensure compatibility and readiness
Assist with installation, removal, testing, and servicing of wellhead and frac equipment
Identify and communicate equipment issues, damage, or operational concerns to supervisors
Support troubleshooting and minor repairs of field equipment
Maintain accurate service documentation including service orders, job tickets, and operational records
Ensure proper handling and staging of tools, parts, and equipment for field jobs
Provide professional customer interaction while representing Cactus Wellhead on location
Assembly and disassembly of frac and wellhead equipment
Inspection and testing of completed products to verify functionality and compliance
Positioning and aligning components using hoists or manual methods
Verifying part clearances and proper equipment fit-up
Repairing, adjusting, or replacing components as needed
Cleaning, preparing, and maintaining parts and assemblies
Reading and interpreting assembly drawings and operational manuals
Maintaining shop tools and equipment
Practice safe work habits and comply with all quality, safety, health, and environmental policies
Maintain a high level of customer service and professionalism
Support operational needs including travel to job sites and overnight stays when required
Assist with loading, transporting, and staging equipment and personnel as needed
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required
1–3 years of mechanical, oilfield, equipment service, or assembly experience preferred
Oilfield service experience preferred but not required
Valid driver’s license preferred
Ability to become qualified to operate company vehicles if required
Industry certifications such as SafeLand, H2S, or customer-required training may be required
Mechanical aptitude and ability to work with industrial equipment
Ability to read technical drawings and operational manuals
Familiarity with wellhead, frac, or pressure control equipment preferred
Strong teamwork and communication skills
Ability to work in both shop and field environments
Flexibility to support changing operational priorities
Must be able to lift/move up to 50 pounds regularly
Stand and walk for extended periods (up to 12 hours per shift)
Climb stairs and ladders
Bend, stoop, kneel, and reach
Work in confined spaces when required
Operate heavy equipment and power tools
Perform repetitive movements
Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
