Job Description:

Excellent opportunity to join one of the UK's largest telecom contractors with over 30 years experience of delivering fibre and network infrastructure projects across the UK. As a Fibre Planning Engineer, you'll support the design and safe planning of fibre installation work across the North West. You'll initially visit and survey sites in order to understand feasability, assess entry and termination points and any additional civil work required. Then, you'll prepare a 2D CAD drawing to enable Engineers to carry out work from your plan which you'll coordinate.

Job Responsibility:

  • Coordinate the civils work to allow network installation
  • 2D CAD drawings of civil designs
  • Attend site surveys
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure work is in accordance with agreed plan
  • Support in pricing/quotes for clients
  • Develop relationships with clients/stakeholders to form a partnership approach to work.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years in a planning position
  • Experience in low level civils design
  • Past experience in fibre optic sector

  • Lead Fibre Installations: Run internal fibre from the telecoms network entry point to all floors of the building, ensuring seamless connections and efficiency
  • Technical Expertise: Terminate fibres into RDT (Riser Distribution Terminals) and breakout boxes, managing both internal and external cabling to the highest standard
  • Ensure Compliance: Complete installations in full accordance with fire safety regulations, including fire stopping for internal cabling
  • Work from Plans: Read, interpret, and execute building surveys and plans to deliver precise installations, ensuring excellent customer satisfaction at every stage
  • Advanced Fibre Techniques: Install Blown Fibre Tubing (BFT), blow fibre, test rod and rope underground cable routes, and perform splicing and testing of optical fibres in line with stringent quality standards

This includes planning for duct provision through test rods and ropes (TRR), verifying requirements, resolving line-of-sight (LOS) issues for overhead deployment, and locating and resolving network issues (faults)
  • Confirm that all planned infrastructure has the appropriate permissions and consents in place, including wayleave and permit-to-work (PTW) requirements, and progress relevant documentation to the appropriate department for resolution or approval
  • Collaborate with contractors, planners, and internal teams to ensure infrastructure proposals are deliverable, scalable, and meet field-readiness standards
