In this role, you’ll be hands-on with the construction, activation, and maintenance of fibre networks—working across both new-build and live environments. You’ll be responsible for splicing, testing, commissioning, and fault resolution, ensuring every connection meets the highest standards of performance, safety, and reliability.
Job Responsibility:
Installing, terminating, and testing fibre cables (2–432 core SM)
Fusion splicing using Fujikura or similar equipment
Building and installing ODFs, joints, cabinets, and other enclosures
Creating new splice points and carrying out live network splicing and repairs
Working across underground, overhead, and internal environments (data rooms, comms cabinets)
Ensuring all routing, coiling, and labelling meets client and industry standards
Carrying out OTDR, ILM, CD, PMD, IOLM and PON testing
Analysing traces and test results to identify and resolve issues
Producing clear, accurate test reports and as-built documentation
Supporting the commissioning and handover of new fibre links
Performing proactive and reactive maintenance on live and new-build networks
Diagnosing and repairing faults to minimise downtime
Replacing components and ensuring long-term network reliability
Working safely at height, in confined spaces, and across varied environments
Completing risk assessments, vehicle checks, and tool inspections
Maintaining PPE and equipment to a high standard
Participating in the Emergency Response Support rota when required
Managing tools, materials, and equipment effectively
Interpreting technical diagrams, SLDs, schematics, and job packs
Keeping documentation up to date, including splice schedules, redlines, and test results
Reporting progress and issues through digital systems
Capturing accurate site evidence (photos, measurements, as-builts)
Communicating professionally with clients, end users, and the public
Providing clear updates on planned works and progress
Representing the company with professionalism and a positive attitude
Requirements:
Strong technical skills in fibre splicing, testing, and diagnostics
Confident using OTDR and power meter equipment (EXFO, Anritsu, Nettest, etc.)
Ability to read and interpret network diagrams and documentation
Excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills
Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
Competent with IT systems, mobile apps, and digital reporting tools
Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work independently or as part of a team
At least 2 years’ experience in fibre splicing and testing
Experience working on both live and new-build networks
Understanding of FTTP/FTTH/PON/GPON architectures
Familiarity with NRSWA requirements and client operating procedures
Experience with fault diagnostics and characterisation reporting
Knowledge of fibre components such as closures, ODFs, and patch panels
Experience updating job data in internal and client systems
