Job Description:

Inspects and evaluates fuels equipment and vehicles. Diagnoses malfunctions of major assemblies and subassemblies. Isolates malfunctions and repairs vehicle/equipment electrical, emissions and diesel systems. Ensures shop equipment is inspected and serviced at required intervals and that unserviceable tools and equipment are removed from service. Calibrates and adjusts pumps, meters, safety unit proportioning devices and limiting devices to ensure proper operation.

  • Applies knowledge of the design, system function, and interrelation of units comprising the system
  • physical properties and hazards associated with the handling of various types of petroleum fuels, chemicals, and alcohol

  • Makes periodic inspections of units to detect and correct leakage, corrosion, faulty fittings, and malfunction of mechanical units, meters, and gauges such as R-11s, C300 series, and FORCE Equipment

  • Repairs, replaces, and adjusts malfunctioning equipment to restore operating condition specified in regulations and repair manuals
  • Adjusts power boosters, drive chains, and tension devices
  • Solves complex maintenance problems by interpreting layout drawings, specifications, schematics, diagrams, and operating characteristics of vehicles/equipment and components
  • Uses technical orders, commercial manuals or automated systems to determine maintenance procedures and research parts
  • Disassembles, adjusts, aligns, and calibrates gauges and meters
  • Troubleshoots, adjusts, repairs, and tests vehicles/equipment
  • Lubricates and repacks valves

  • Properly annotates all maintenance performed on prescribed forms for data collection and historical record purposes

Requirements:

  • One year certificate from college or technical school with five (5) years’ experience and/or training
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

  • Must possess a journeyman license and have 3 or more years of related experience in the plumbing arena

  • Adjusts/repair pumps, control valves, meters, strainers, filters, water separators, and all other elements of liquid fuel systems
  • Makes periodic inspections of fuel bladders, pumping units in compliance with applicable regulations, to detect and correct leakage, corrosion, faulty fittings, and malfunction of mechanical units, meters, gauges, and hoses
  • Perform 90-day and 180-day inspections FSE assets per regulations, AFI and Technical Orders
  • Inspects electrical wiring, switches, and controls for safe operating condition, grounding, and adjustment
  • Repairs, replaces, and adjusts malfunctioning equipment to restore operating condition specified in regulations and repair manuals
  • Disassembles, adjusts, aligns, calibrates gauges and meters, and perform hydrostatic hose testing
  • Maintain and monitor the Shelf-life program for all FSE parts (hoses, valves, seals and any other items or materiel that have a shelf-life requirement)
  • Perform PMIs and function checks on all equipment to ensure that units are pumping and straining fuel IAW AFIs and Technical Orders
  • Perform inventory of RSPs and UTC FSE kits on a semi and annual basis or when directed
