As a Federal Engineering Team Lead, you will report directly to the Director of Federal Programs. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers in deploying, sustaining, and improving Virtru’s Data Security Platform across highly complex, mission‑critical federal environments. Your work directly enables warfighters, analysts, and partner organizations to share sensitive information securely across multi‑domain and multi‑classification networks. This role blends deep hands‑on technical execution with leadership. You will serve as both a performing Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) and the team lead responsible for coaching engineers, coordinating technical work across programs, and ensuring our federal customers receive reliable, timely support. Your team’s impact is measured not only through successful deployments but also in the stability, security, and mission readiness of the environments we support.
Job Responsibility:
Serve as both a hands‑on engineer (FDE) and the day‑to‑day technical lead for a team of forward deployed engineers
Lead technical execution and coordination across multiple federal programs, ensuring deployments, upgrades, and mission tasks are completed successfully
Provide guidance, mentorship, and escalation support to engineers while acting as the primary technical interface to PMs, CSMs, and mission partners
Deploy, configure, troubleshoot, and validate Virtru DSP components across secure customer networks
Participate in architecture discussions, migration efforts (Kubernetes, VKS, cloud‑to‑on‑prem), and integration planning
Conduct technical deep‑dives with customer engineering teams and partner organizations
Assist with hiring, onboarding, and upskilling new technical staff as the team grows
Provide weekly prioritization, transparency, and reporting on engineering work across supported programs
Requirements:
Strong hands‑on engineering background in deployments, Linux systems, containers, or Kubernetes (in classified or constrained environments)
Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams, coach peers, and coordinate complex multi‑stakeholder work
Advanced understanding of containerization, Kubernetes (k8s) and orchestration tooling such as OpenShift, Rancher, and Helm
Proficiency in DevSecOps practices, with experience in source code repositories and CI/CD pipeline solutions such as Team Foundation Server/Azure DevOps, Bitbucket, and GitHub
Able to collaborate and adapt to shifting priorities as business needs evolve
Must have, and be willing to maintain, a Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility. CI polygraph is preferred
Nice to have:
Experience supporting ATO, security assessments, Purple/Red teams, or federal accreditation workflows
Familiarity with HSMs, key management, CAS, or cross‑domain architectures
Background working in joint, coalition, or multi‑INT federal systems
