Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Family Assessment Worker to join a residential family assessment service supporting families where there are Child Protection concerns. This role plays a vital part in delivering high-quality, evidence-based assessments that inform care planning and court proceedings. You will work closely with families, observing and recording parenting capacity, child care tasks, and family interactions in line with the National Assessment Framework, ensuring all assessments are objective, detailed, and professional.

Job Responsibility:

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team within a residential assessment setting
  • Supervise and observe child care tasks and family routines
  • Undertake direct work and individual sessions with families to promote positive parenting
  • Produce high-quality, objective, evidence-based assessment recordings
  • Complete detailed written reports, which may be submitted as part of Court proceedings
  • Observe and record interactions between children, parents, and environmental factors to inform recommendations and future planning
  • Provide appropriate advice, guidance, and support to families in line with agreed programmes
  • Work in partnership with colleagues including Case Managers, Team Managers, and Training Managers
  • Maintain professional standards aligned with organisational values and safeguarding requirements
  • Adhere to all policies relating to confidentiality, health & safety, and safeguarding

Requirements:

  • Experience working with families involved in Child Protection or safeguarding services
  • Strong observation, assessment, and report-writing skills
  • Ability to produce clear, factual, and court-ready documentation
  • Professional, objective, and non-judgemental approach
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding practice and professional boundaries
  • Flexibility to work across a rota including nights
