This position plays a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the Whiskey Mountain Conservation Camp (WMCC), located just outside Dubois, Wyoming. Working alongside the WMCC caretaker, you’ll help create a safe, functional, and welcoming environment while supporting habitat that benefits bighorn sheep, elk, and deer. In this hands-on role, you’ll take the lead on irrigating agricultural fields, maintaining buildings and grounds, and keeping camp operations running smoothly. From troubleshooting and repairing systems like plumbing, heating, irrigation, lighting, and water systems, to monitoring equipment logs and staying ahead of preventative maintenance—you’ll be at the center of keeping the facility operating at its best. We’re looking for candidates who enjoy working outdoors, take pride in hands-on problem-solving, and can work both independently and as part of a team.
Job Responsibility:
Operates as a team member and is self-directed to identify and solve problems
Provides daily irrigation of agricultural fields, providing habitat for bighorn sheep, elk, and deer
Maintains facility, including repair and/or oversight of facility's plumbing, heating system, irrigation system, and lighting systems
Greets incoming WMCC leaders
Monitors equipment logs and ensures proper maintenance schedules are upheld
Monitors and provides maintenance on sophisticated electrical systems, which include: fire alarm system and fire alarm control panel, electrical and battery-operated lights and doors
Performs lawn and landscape care, including mowing, raking, and grounds irrigation
maintains sprinkler system
trims tree and plants and does other landscape work
Performs custodial and janitorial services during and between camps, including, but not limited to, cleaning of cabins, dining hall, restrooms, flooring, and trash receptacles
Performs regular cleaning of windows, carpets, tile, and countertops
Maintains and repairs equipment and tools
Purchases supplies
Sets up and takes down meeting room furniture for Department meetings
Performs preventive maintenance on facility buildings and grounds
Maintains Material Safety Data Sheets and Hazard Communication Program for the facility
Responsible for weed identification and control
maintains records of pesticide applications
Maintenance of the water system (including well, filters, and chlorination)
Serves as the contact person for camps
Assist and support camp leaders with logistics activities such as driving vehicles, etc.
Works approximately 40 hours per week, including work on some weekends
Fence construction and maintenance – wildlife and stock fence
ATV/UTV operation and maintenance
Operation of power tools, 4x4 pickups, and trailers
Requirements:
Preference will be given to those with farm or ranch background or experience related to range management, fish and wildlife resource management, habitat development or college course work towards a degree in range, fish, or wildlife management
Must have a valid driver’s license
Knowledge of heating and cooling systems
Knowledge of electrical systems and wiring
Knowledge of plumbing systems and repair
Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations
Knowledge of lawn sprinkler systems, lawn and landscape care chemicals
Knowledge of basic math
Skill in record keeping of contractor services and performance
Skill in working on ladders
Skill in basic computer use, e-mail, and word processing
Skill in organizing, planning, prioritizing, and managing time
Ability to listen, be a team player, and communicate with other employees and the public
